Earth 2150
Earth 2150 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Reality Pump and published by TopWare Interactive. Released in 2000 for Windows, it is set in the year 2150, where Earth is on a collision course with the sun. Three factions, the Eurasian Dynasty, the United Civilized States, and the Lunar Corporation, compete for the planet's remaining resources to build their escape fleets.
The game is notable for being one of the earliest fully 3D RTS titles, featuring a true 3D engine with real-time lighting, shadows, and deformable terrain. Players can dig trenches, build bridges, and tunnel underground, which can alter the battlefield strategically. Another standout feature is the unit customization system: players design their own vehicles by selecting chassis, weapons, and special equipment, and can even program custom AI scripts for their units. Additional innovations include platoon-level AI, realistic ammunition logistics requiring supply lines, automated repair and resupply, and the separation of a persistent home base from remote mission sites.
The game offers three single-player campaigns, each with a distinct faction and unique ultimate weapon. The terrain, while limited to Earth environments, features varied weather and geography. Earth 2150 is widely regarded as a highly innovative but demanding RTS, requiring players to adapt to its realism and complexity. It spawned a sequel, Earth 2150: The Moon Project, and an expansion, Lost Souls.
