POCG VERDICT
A puzzle game with feet, heart, and a clone button, Gubble II is pure joy.
Gubble II improves on the original with auto-save, clone abilities, and a walking, talking alien with adorable boots. A kids’ game that’ll make adults grin, if they can get their hands on it.
About This Game

Gubble II is a puzzle maze game developed and published by Actual Entertainment and released in 1999 for Windows 95 and Windows 98. It is the sequel to the original Gubble, which introduced the alien Gubble D. Gleep navigating a spaceship through colorful mazes. In Gubble II, the character has evolved: he now walks on two large feet clad in white boots, adding a new physicality and personality to the game. Players guide Gubble through over 124 mazes spread across several themed areas, each with increasing difficulty. The objective is to navigate hazards, avoid enemies, and unscrew bolts or reach goals using a variety of tools such as springs, drills, and transporters. Only a certain number of mazes per area must be completed to advance, while optional bonus mazes and hidden areas offer additional challenges. New features include an auto-save system after each maze, a clone ability to distract enemies, and a level editor for creating custom mazes. The game’s bright, cartoony graphics, rotating antennae elements, and cute sound design reinforce its appeal to children and families. Gubble II was sold exclusively through Actual Entertainment’s website for $39.95, with a simple installation process but a sparse printed manual that omitted key information about the level editor and keyboard controls.
