A bundle of old parts, not a reason to buy.
Three old MechWarrior games, now with 3D acceleration and a full price tag. Newcomers might consider it; fans should wait for MechWarrior 3.
About This Game

MechWarrior 2: The Titanium Trilogy is a compilation released by Activision for Windows 95/98, bundling three titles from the acclaimed BattleMech simulation series: the original MechWarrior 2, its expansion pack Ghost Bear's Legacy, and the stand-alone sandbox entry MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. All three games had previously shipped separately and were collected once before in the BattlePack re-release. The Titanium Trilogy, which first appeared around 1999, adds native support for 3D graphics accelerators, including 3dfx Voodoo, Rendition Vérité, and Direct3D-compatible cards, bringing texture mapping, lighting effects, and improved frame rates to the aging series.

Each title retains its full single-player campaign. MechWarrior 2 and Ghost Bear's Legacy follow linear, mission-based storylines set during the Clan Invasion, while Mercenaries offers an open-ended career as a mercenary commander, taking contracts, salvaging enemy 'Mechs, and building a lance. All three share the signature MechLab customization system, which lets players swap armor, engines, weapons, and electronics on dozens of chassis. Multiplayer modes (NetMech and MercNet) were not included on the discs but could be downloaded separately.

The compilation was criticized at the time for its full-price tag ($34.95 USD) and for offering no new content beyond the 3D acceleration, which had already been made available for some titles via free patches. Nevertheless, it remains the definitive Windows-native version of the trilogy, shipping with the final official patches and the most stable salvage mechanics for Mercenaries.
