Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire
Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire is the fifth and final entry in the hybrid adventure-RPG Quest for Glory series, developed by Yosemite Entertainment and published by SierraFX in 1999. The game continues the story of the Hero (importable from previous titles) who answers a call for aid from the island kingdom of Silmaria, part of the Marete region formerly surrounded by Atlantis. The Dragon of Doom, bound centuries ago by seven magical pillars, threatens to break free after the King of Silmaria is assassinated. The player must navigate the Rites of Rulership, a contest to become the new king, while uncovering a conspiracy that ties together monoliths, raids on fishing villages, and a war with the tritons.
The game preserves the series' blend of point-and-click adventure exploration, dialogue, puzzle-solving, and real-time combat with RPG character progression. Players choose from three classes, Fighter, Thief, or Wizard, each with unique side quests and puzzle solutions, ensuring high replayability. Fans can import a saved character from any previous Quest for Glory game. Dragon Fire features a fully voiced cast, event-driven musical score, and the series' trademark juvenile humor alongside familiar returning characters like Rakeesh, Elsa, Erasmus, and Erana.
While praised for its story, atmosphere, and multi-class design, the game's graphics were considered dated at release, with moving characters appearing blocky up close. The interface drew criticism for lacking hot-cursor indicators, making item-hunting a pixel-clicking trial, and the combat system omitted zoom features that made long-range fighting awkward. The ending, meant as a finale to the series, was widely viewed as disappointing. Despite these flaws, Dragon Fire remains a cherished conclusion for series veterans.
