Team Apache is a 1998 attack helicopter simulation developed by Simis and published by Mindscape for Windows 95. Players command an AH-64 Apache and its support crew across two linear campaigns set in Colombia and Latvia. The game blends a forgiving flight model with real-time resource management, where the player must assign ground crews, monitor pilot fatigue, and repair battle-damaged helicopters between missions to maintain combat effectiveness. Missions range from seek-and-destroy sorties to escort and close air support, with the option to customize objectives, weather, time of day, and difficulty level. A mission editor allows users to create their own campaigns, while multiplayer supports up to eight players over LAN or TCP/IP. Visually, Team Apache was a standout of its era, offering detailed 3D-accelerated terrain, dynamic lighting, and spectacular weather effects. The manual and training missions provide a thorough introduction, though some may find the interface cluttered by the many keyboard commands required. Despite a linear story structure and inconsistent sound quality, the game's emphasis on humanizing the crew, each with unique personalities and needs, sets it apart from other helicopter sims.

ReleaseHow to Play TodayYour options for running this game in 2026
Original Hardware
Requires a Pentium 133 or better Windows 95 machine with a 4× CD-ROM drive and a DirectX-compatible sound card. A 3D accelerator (Voodoo or PowerVR) is highly recommended for the full visual experience. Original big-box copies occasionally turn up on eBay.
Emulation / Other Options
As a DirectX title for Windows 95, emulation is not straightforward. The game can be run on a dedicated retro PC or via a Windows 95 virtual machine with 3D acceleration passed through (e.g., using PCem or 86Box). Compatibility on modern Windows is hit-or-miss; many users report success running it natively with compatibility mode, but results vary.
