About This Game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, released in 1992. It is an enhanced home conversion of Konami's 1991 arcade game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, itself a sequel to the hugely popular four-player TMNT arcade cabinet. Players take control of one of the four turtles, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael, each with slightly different reach and speed, and fight through waves of Foot Soldiers and series villains across stages that send the turtles time-travelling from prehistory to a far future. The SNES version supports two players in simultaneous co-op, and adds content not found in the arcade, including new bosses, a competitive versus mode, and a signature attack in which enemies can be hurled directly at the screen toward the player. The combat is deliberately simple and readable, built on a small set of attacks, jumps, and a screen-clearing special, which keeps it accessible to newcomers and easy to share on a couch. Widely praised on release for its responsive controls, bright presentation, and faithful translation of the arcade experience, Turtles in Time is frequently cited as one of the best beat 'em ups of the 16-bit era and one of the strongest licensed games on the Super Nintendo. It has remained a fan favorite, receiving a 2009 high-definition remake, and endures as a benchmark for the cooperative arcade brawler.
