Project Gorgon is an indie MMORPG developed by Elder Game. It began as a Kickstarter project and spent an extended period in early access before finally launching into 1.0 in early 2026. The game emphasized an old-school design philosophy, featuring a skill-based progression system instead of traditional classes, a heavy focus on exploration, and a quirky, player-driven world where spells and abilities were discovered through experimentation rather than menus.

Developed largely by a husband-and-wife team led by industry veterans Eric Heimburg and Sandra Powers, Project Gorgon deliberately rejected many modern MMO conveniences. It did not hold the player's hand; instead, it rewarded curiosity and community knowledge-sharing. The game's tone was often lighthearted, with transformations into animals like cows or pigs being a central mechanic.

Despite a small but devoted player base, the game struggled to find a commercial foothold. In June 2026, just three months after its 1.0 release, the developers announced that the servers would be shut down, citing an inability to sustain ongoing development and hosting costs. The shutdown marks the end of a project that had been in development for roughly a decade.
