SpiritWars Exits Beta and Goes Live on WON.net

SpiritWars is out of beta and officially live today on WON.net, the free online gaming site. It is an online-only game that crosses a trading card game with a classic board game: players battle to destroy each other’s castle using pieces called Spirits, backed by a varied arsenal of magical spells.

The Spirits mix familiar board game moves with the kind of design you usually only find in collectible card games, and the whole thing leans on traditional mythology and folklore, so strategy players, fantasy fans, and war gamers are all in its sights. The fundamentals are easy to learn, but the mix of pieces and spells is supposed to leave room for every player to develop a style of their own. The presentation goes for class too, with literary flavor text and an art gallery drawn from history’s greatest painters. A board game with teeth and a paint job like that is worth a look.
