EA Sports Buys Into Supercross, Starts Work on Supercross 2000
EA Sports signed a sponsorship deal with PACE Motor Sports and is building Supercross 2000 for PlayStation and Nintendo 64, due this winter.
EA Sports has inked a long-run sponsorship and licensing pact with PACE Motor Sports, Electronic Arts confirmed today, whose supercross events will now run as the EA Sports Supercross Series. The real-world series gets EA’s marketing muscle, and EA gets its game woven into the whole supercross fan experience. The game advertises the sport, the sport advertises the game: a tidy arrangement if you can get it.
The other half of the announcement is the game itself. EA has begun development on EA Sports Supercross 2000, an extreme motorcycle racing sim headed to PlayStation and Nintendo 64 this winter. It carries 25 top riders from supercross and freestyle, a full season mode, head-to-head racing, and a freestyle jump-off mode for big air showboating, all sitting on a physics model EA claims puts unmatched control in the rider’s hands.
