Valve Ships Uplink as a 10 MB Half-Life Mod

Valve has repackaged the Half-Life Uplink demo as a mod, and if you already own the full game the download drops from 50 MB to 10.4 MB. The mod version reuses files Half-Life already installed on your drive, so all you are pulling down is Uplink itself, a mini-mission that never appeared in the original game.

Getting it takes the mod browser Valve wired into the 1.0.0.9 update: launch Half-Life, click Custom Game, hit Refresh List, pick the Half-Life Uplink demo, and click Install. On a 56k line, the gap between 10 MB and 50 MB is the gap between playing tonight and playing this weekend.
