TRIBES Extreme Adds Single-Player to Starsiege TRIBES

Dynamix announced TRIBES Extreme, adding a single-player campaign and team training to Starsiege TRIBES, due this fall on CD-ROM for about $40.

Dynamix has announced TRIBES Extreme, a follow-up that finally gives Starsiege TRIBES a real single-player side. The Sierra On-Line division says the original, which pioneered online squad warfare, still tops the world’s online action play counts and recently took the Online Game of the Year award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

TRIBES Extreme adds a full single-player campaign against computer opponents, plus team-building missions where a squad drills versus AI-controlled teams on the full-size online maps. Dynamix also promises significant enhancements to the multiplayer game itself, and the single-player side doubles as a proper course in how TRIBES is actually played, with some surprises the company isn’t detailing yet. That teaching part matters: TRIBES has a learning cliff, and anything that gets new recruits past their first ten deaths is good news for every server.

TRIBES Extreme arrives on CD-ROM this fall for Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and NT 5.0 at an estimated street price of $40.
