South of Midnight dev Compulsion Games seeks co-development partners after Xbox split
Compulsion Games, recently cut in Xbox layoffs, puts out a call for co-development partners as it returns to independence, alongside other divested studios.
Compulsion Games, the Montreal studio behind South of Midnight, has put out an open call for collaboration partners a week after being let go in Xbox’s latest round of layoffs. The studio announced on LinkedIn that it is “expanding opportunities to collaborate with studios from across the entertainment industry” as it returns to its independent roots.
Compulsion was one of several teams affected by Microsoft’s FY27 restructuring, which aims to cut 3,200 jobs, with 1,600 eliminated immediately. Double Fine also regained its independence, while Ninja Theory and Undead Labs have entered terms to join new ownership. South of Midnight launched on Switch 2 earlier this year and reportedly surpassed a million players through Game Pass, but that momentum did not shield the studio from the cuts. An award-winning track record and a fresh BAFTA get you a LinkedIn post and a jump back into the indie deep end.
