About This Game

Truxton Extreme is a 2026 shoot 'em up developed by TATSUJIN and published by Clear River Games, and the first new entry in the Truxton series in 38 years. The original Truxton, known in Japan as Tatsujin, was a 1988 vertically scrolling arcade shooter from Toaplan, one of the studios that defined the shoot 'em up genre, and it was widely ported to home systems including the Mega Drive and PC Engine. Truxton Extreme is overseen by Masahiro Yuge, a co-founder of Toaplan and the mind behind the original, whose studio TATSUJIN (named after the series) now manages the classic Toaplan catalog, including Snow Bros., Flying Shark, and Zero Wing. The new game keeps the foundational principles of the classic shooters while adding mechanics aimed at modern players. It wraps its arcade action in an unusually developed story told across 18 chapters, with comic-book artwork by manga artist Junya Inoue (Batsugun, DoDonPachi, Btooom!). Set in the year 2200, it follows a humanity that has swelled past 30 billion people and colonized seven additional planets before being attacked by Geranium, a self-replicating alien machine lifeform. Ordinary citizens volunteer to become the TATSUJIN, elite pilots who trade their human bodies for cyborg ones to fly advanced tactical fighters, and the game follows three of them, Ash, Bergamot, and Cyrilla. Truxton Extreme released on July 30, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and GOG, with both digital and physical editions.
