F-14 Tomcat Central Air Data Computer (MP944)

The Central Air Data Computer (CADC) built for the Grumman F-14 Tomcat used the MP944, a six-chip processor system developed in 1970 - more than a year before Intel's 4004 microprocessor. Classified for nearly 30 years, it is considered by some to be the first microprocessor. FPGA engineer Alan Taylor recreated the CADC's logic in programmable logic and demonstrated it controlling a 3D-printed scale model's swing wings.
