BS The Legend of Zelda (BS Zelda no Densetsu) is a 1995 Satellaview title, distributed not on cartridge but as a timed satellite broadcast for the Super Famicom's Satellaview add-on in Japan. Rather than a static download, it was a live event: content was pushed on a schedule.

The game was structured as weekly episodes, split across an Overworld mode and a second underworld map, with players collecting Triforce fragments and working toward a confrontation with Ganon. Progress and performance were tracked during the broadcast window, with weekly score and settlement screens tying the sessions together. Because the experience depended on the Satellaview's live runtime, held in the hardware's PSRAM, it was inherently ephemeral, tied to the broadcast schedule and the hardware that received it.

That dependence is also why the title has been so difficult to preserve. The static game data has been recovered and circulated, and MSU-1 patches recreate a playable standalone version with the recovered media, but the original broadcast runtime, the code that timed the data push, the cutscenes, and the audio, was lost when the hardware and its temporary memory decayed. Preservation of BS The Legend of Zelda has therefore centered less on the ROM than on reconstructing the broadcast behavior around it, work that continues through fan tools built on emulators such as Mesen.
