Falcom plans to keep remaking classic Trails games after Sky 2nd Chapter
Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo says the studio hopes to keep remaking classic Trails games after Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, with the 3rd or Zero potentially next.
Nihon Falcom wants to keep remaking older Trails games after Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter ships. In a video interview with western publisher GungHo, president Toshihiro Kondo said the studio hopes to continue remaking classic Trails games.: “We’re hoping to continue the remakes for a while.” He added, with a laugh, that the development team is already asking him whether Trails in the Sky the 3rd or Trails from Zero gets rebuilt next.
That matters because the Trails saga now spans 13 games, and starting from the beginning has never been simple. Kondo says 1st Chapter was designed as a gateway, a ground-up modern retelling of the original meant to work as an introduction to RPGs and JRPGs in general. It landed both critically and commercially, which is exactly why remaking the older entries makes sense for Falcom right now.
The open question is where the remakes stop. The series went fully 3D with Trails of Cold Steel, so that reads like a natural line to draw, and the current arc ended on a cliffhanger with Trails beyond Horizon. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter releases worldwide on September 17, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, with a free demo whose save data carries into the full game. If you have ever wanted to start this series and never found the door, Falcom is finally rebuilding it.
