POCG VERDICT
Machines tries to turn the RTS battlefield into a place you can actually step inside, and sometimes it works.
Machines is clunky in places, but its full 3D battlefield and direct unit control make it one of the more interesting RTS experiments of 1999.
About This Game

Machines is a real-time strategy game developed by Charybdis and published by Acclaim for Windows in 1999. Set in a futuristic industrial world of warring robots, it distinguishes itself from contemporaries by building the entire battlefield in full 3D and letting the player drop from the overhead command view directly into any unit for first-person or third-person ground-level combat. The combination of top-down RTS management and on-the-ground action was unusual for the genre in 1999 and remains the game's defining feature.
