About This Game

Mass Effect 3 is a 2012 action-RPG developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the climactic finale of the original Mass Effect trilogy. It brings the saga of Commander Shepard to a head as the Reapers, an ancient race of synthetic-organic machines, launch their long-foretold galactic extermination, beginning with an assault on Earth. Players must rally the galaxy's fractured species, building alliances and resolving long-running conflicts seeded across the previous games, to mount a final stand. The game blends cinematic, choice-driven storytelling, with decisions imported from earlier entries carrying weight, and refined third-person cover shooting, biotic and tech powers, and squad tactics, alongside a newly added cooperative multiplayer mode tied into the campaign's war effort. Critically acclaimed for its combat, emotional storytelling and production values, Mass Effect 3 nonetheless became famous for the intense fan controversy over its original endings, which many felt undercut the series' promise of player agency, prompting BioWare to release an Extended Cut expansion clarifying and expanding the conclusion. Despite that debate, it remains a landmark of choice-driven, narrative-rich science-fiction gaming and the emotional capstone to one of the medium's most celebrated trilogies. It was later remastered as part of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition collection in 2021.
