About This Game

SEGA Mega Drive Classics Collection (sometimes branded as Genesis Classics in North America) is a series of compilations gathering many of SEGA's classic 16-bit Mega Drive and Genesis games for modern platforms, with various volumes and editions released for PC and consoles. These collections package dozens of titles from SEGA's celebrated 1989-1997 console catalogue, spanning genres and franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, Shinobi, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes and many more, emulated and bundled with modern conveniences like save states, control remapping and display options. SEGA released the Mega Drive Classics collections to keep its rich retro library accessible to new audiences and nostalgic fans, periodically expanding and re-issuing them across platforms; the PC versions in particular were noted for sheer volume and value, eventually consolidating into a single large library. POCG covered the announcement of a Mega Drive Classics Collection volume for PC. As curated anthologies rather than original works, these collections are valued chiefly for preserving and presenting SEGA's classic games conveniently and affordably. They stand as a cornerstone of SEGA's retro-revival strategy, celebrating the Mega Drive era that helped define 16-bit gaming and the company's golden age. The collections were later consolidated into a single, regularly updated SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics library on Steam.
