About This Game

Super Stardust HD is a 2007 twin-stick shoot-'em-up developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Computer Entertainment as a downloadable title for the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network. A spiritual successor to the Amiga classic Super Stardust, it places the player in command of a lone spacecraft defending a series of spherical planets from relentless waves of asteroids and alien enemies. Distinctively, the action takes place on the curved surface of a rotating globe, with the player flying around the planet's circumference while using twin-stick controls, one stick to move, the other to aim and fire, to blast incoming threats, switching between weapon types suited to different enemy materials. Renowned for its dazzling visual effects, intense difficulty and addictive, score-chasing arcade design, it became one of the PlayStation 3's standout early downloadable games and a showcase for the PSN's potential. Housemarque, which would go on to make Resogun and Returnal, built its reputation on this kind of polished, spectacle-driven arcade shooter. POCG noted a special anniversary offer for the game. Critically acclaimed and beloved by arcade-shooter enthusiasts, Super Stardust HD remains a celebrated example of the twin-stick genre and a high point of the early downloadable-game era on consoles.
