Tropico 4
Tropico 4 is a 2011 construction-and-management simulation developed by Haemimont Games and published by Kalypso Media for Windows, macOS and Xbox 360. Part of the long-running Tropico series, it casts the player as 'El Presidente', the dictator of a Caribbean island nation, tasked with building and governing a banana republic through the Cold War era and beyond. The game blends city-building, economic management and political satire: players construct and develop their island's infrastructure, industry, housing and amenities, manage the economy and exports, and balance the demands and happiness of various political factions, from communists and capitalists to religious and environmentalist groups, all while navigating relations with the global superpowers and surviving elections, rebellions and disasters. Its tongue-in-cheek humour, charming presentation and the perennial temptation to rule benevolently or tyrannically give the series its distinctive character. Tropico 4 expanded on its predecessor with new buildings, scenarios, an extended campaign, additional faction and disaster mechanics, and cabinet ministers offering bonuses. Well received, it was praised as a polished, accessible and entertaining management game that refined the Tropico formula, and it was supported by numerous DLC packs, including the Pirate Heaven content noted by POCG. It stands as a beloved, witty entry in the city-building strategy genre.
