Rollcage is a futuristic arcade racing game developed by Attention to Detail and published by Psygnosis for Windows and PlayStation in 2000. Players control massive four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles, each with distinct acceleration, top speed, and grip ratings, across a series of high-speed tracks. The game distinguishes itself from conventional racers by incorporating heavy weaponry and destructible environments. Power-ups include guided missiles, teleportation devices that shunt opponents backward, and other offensive and defensive items. Collisions and explosions can destroy buildings, signage, and other structures lining the circuits, while vehicles can flip and continue driving on their roofs, climb vertical walls, and even traverse tunnel ceilings at sufficient speed. The physics model allows for dramatic, acrobatic crashes without ending the race. Multiplayer support via internet and LAN is included. Rollcage received positive reception for its breakneck pace, destructive gameplay, and technical performance, spawning a sequel, Rollcage Stage II, in 2001.
