Microsoft now has announced that the first screen shot of Age of Empires Expansion: The Rise of Rome has been unveiled at Ensemble Studio's website Showcase, located here.

Microsoft now has announced that the first screen shot of Age of Empires Expansion: The Rise of Rome has been unveiled at Ensemble Studio’s website Showcase, located here. This exclusive screen shot shows off the Camel Rider, one of the many new units that is expected to be available in the Age of Empires expansion pack.

In addition to the screen shot, the Showcase features notes from the lead designer, Sandy Petersen, about the inspiration behind the creation of this new unit and its strategic importance to gameplay.

It is not the same as playing the thing, but in 1998 every new shot, chat log, and developer quote is enough to keep the hype machine fed for another day.
