3DFX agrees to acquire STB Systems

The important bit: Graphics software maker 3Dfx Interactive said today it had agreed to acquire STB Systems, which makes multimedia products, in a stock deal valued at $141 million.

3DFX agrees to acquire STB Systems is the business side of the news today, and this one has the usual late-90s mix of studios, publishing deals, lawsuits, money, and big promises.

The important bit: Graphics software maker 3Dfx Interactive said today it had agreed to acquire STB Systems, which makes multimedia products, in a stock deal valued at $141 million. STB shareholders will receive 0.65 share of 3Dfx common stock for each share of STB common. The deal is expected to close in March, subject to approval by federal regulators and shareholders.

It is not as fun as a new demo, but these moves decide what games actually get made, sold, patched, or buried. Ignore the suits and you miss half the story.
