Pre-Release Edition of Descent 3 Ships with 3dfx Voodoo3

Interplay OEM today revealed it is heading to stores a specially optimized pre-release version of the long-awaited Descent 3 to coincide with the worldwide availability of Voodoo3 from 3dfx Interactive Inc.

Pre-Release Edition of Descent 3 Ships with 3dfx Voodoo3 is the story today, and it is the kind of late-April 1999 news blast that makes the pre-E3 season feel like someone kicked the hornet nest. Interplay OEM today revealed it is heading to stores a specially optimized pre-release version of the long-awaited Descent 3 to coincide with the worldwide availability of Voodoo3 from 3dfx Interactive Inc. The special abridged edition, titled Descent 3: Sol Ascent, was developed by Outrage Entertainment on the all-new Fusion Engine using 3dfx Glide, and is designed to take advantage of the Voodoo3 3000, the new 3dfx branded board designed for game enthusiasts. Descent 3: Sol Ascent is included with every Voodoo3 3000 board. In a separate release yesterday, 3dfx revealed that Voodoo2 2000 and 3000 boards is set to be available this month in 9,000 stores worldwide, and that up to 15,000 stores are expected to carry 3dfx brand products later this year.

For PC players, this is the kind of spec-sheet news that either matters immediately or becomes the thing everyone argues about once the drivers land. Either way, keep an eye on it.
