The new program, ESRB Privacy Online, is designed to ensure that its players meet or exceed the requirements under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 and the Federal Trade Commission and Interactive Digital Software Association guidelines for online privacy protection. Of particular note in the Electronic Arts’ privacy practices is the company’s requirement that children under the age of 13 years registering in North America must have written parental permission to participate in any of EA’s Web-based activities.
