The US Department of Justice drafted a new piece of legistlation with importance to all computer users.

The Cyberspace Electronic Security Act would allow both state and federal agents to enter premises and disable cryptography programs like PGP at locations suspected of using the high-grade encryption technology for illegal purposes. The DOJ believes that this technology is being used to aid drug smuggling, child pornography, and other illegal activities, and despite its legimate uses unduly hampers agents of the law in a way not previously available.

We will see if it lives up to the pitch, because the late-1999 release calendar is not exactly taking mercy on anyone.
