S3 Incorporated reports Third Quarter Results is today’s business-side update, the sort of suit-and-spreadsheet news that still decides what games actually reach players.

The useful part: Net loss was $11.1 million for the quarter, including a $7.6 million in-process R&D and amortization charge associated with the acquisition of Diamond Multimedia Systems, or $0.20 per diluted share. Excluding the in-process R&D and amortization charge, net loss for the quarter was $0.06 per diluted share. This compares to a net loss of $35.4 million or $0.69 per diluted share for the third quarter of 1998. Listed pricing shows $70, so this is not vapor sitting on a press sheet.
