About This Hardware

The Midway Wolf Unit is an arcade system board developed by Midway in the mid-1990s. It powered a range of high-profile titles including NBA Hangtime, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 3, WWF WrestleMania, NHL: 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge, NBA Maximum Hangtime, and Rampage World Tour. The board was built around advanced 2D graphics hardware and formed the backbone for several of Midway's most popular arcade releases of the era. In 2026, FPGA developer blahm1d released a MiSTer core for the Wolf Unit, enabling NBA Hangtime and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 to be played, with the rest of the library reported to follow.
