ATI at QuakeCon’99 landed today, giving players another thing to circle on the calendar.

ATI Technologies is behind the announcement. ATI Technologies today announced that ATI’s RAGE 128 Pro(TM) graphics chip and the newly-announced 32MB RAGE FURY PRO graphics add-in board will be the power behind the throne as PC games enthusiasts from around the world square off in the first official Quake III Arena tournament, to be held.

A total of 512 players will battle for first place on AMD’s K7 processor-equipped super systems – all of which will be powered by the RAGE Fury Pro graphics card with the RAGE 128 Pro chip from ATI. ATI will also be behind the scenes in a special tournament for the press, where 32 journalists will go head-to-head to determine the media Quake III Arena champion.

PC hardware is moving stupid fast right now, and this is one more part of that arms race.
