July 1998 keeps moving, and today the headline is simple: Cisco Providing Equipment for CPL Event. Cisco Systems is providing about $600,000 of high-speed network equipment for the CPL Event taking place at the Infomart in Dallas, Texas on July 23 to July 26, 1998.

This network will be the largest and most sophisticated gaming network ever built and will include: the Cisco Catalyst 5500, the Cisco Catalyst 5000 and several Cisco Catalyst 2900 XL 10/100-Mbps Ethernet switches. This configuration will allow for over 500 switched Ethernet ports and full duplex 100 megabit Ethernet for the official CPL one-on-one Quake tournament. For PC players watching every demo, patch, driver and announcement right now, this is one more thing to keep on the board.
