CPL to Run the LAN Rounds of the $50,000 Descent 3 Championship

The Cyberathlete Professional League will host the LAN rounds of the Descent 3 $50,000 Championship, with finals at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas in August.

The Cyberathlete Professional League is teaming up with Interplay and Case’s Ladder to run the entire LAN portion of this year’s Descent 3 $50,000 Championship Tournament. The CPL will host open LAN competition for the first 250 entrants who sign up to haul their own machines in.

The semifinals happen online, exclusively on HEAT.NET and using the full retail version of Descent 3, from August 1 through August 15. The top four from those matches get an expense-paid trip to Las Vegas and automatic seats among the final 16, who square off at Caesar’s Palace August 26 through 29. First place takes home the $50,000 cash prize plus an Ultimate Gaming Machine from Gateway.

Registration opened June 1 and runs through July 17, and the first 500 people who pre-register online (that starts June 15) and sign in at the event get a free gift. Fifty grand for being the best Descent pilot in the world? Sign me up.
