eGames Titles Are Coming to TV Sets Through ICTV’s Cable Service

eGames signed a deal with ICTV to deliver its games over cable TV, starting with MahJongg Master, Solitaire Master and Bingo.

eGames is bringing its catalog of family titles to the television. The publisher has signed an agreement with ICTV, currently the only outfit delivering CD-ROM software to TV sets over cable lines, to supply games for the ICTV service. The first wave leans on the company’s best sellers: MahJongg Master, its take on the classic tile-matching game, Solitaire Master, and Bingo, which pits players against computer opponents and pays out a virtual jackpot that unlocks play in other venues, Las Vegas included. Intergalactic Exterminator and Blast Thru round out the featured lineup, with eGames aiming the whole slate at players of every age.

Card games and bingo on a cable box will not set anyone’s hair on fire, but the pipe itself is worth watching. If ICTV can run CD-ROM software to a television over cable today, sooner or later somebody is going to push something meatier through it.
