Eidos Reports Lower Third Quarter Revenue But Leans On Big Franchises
Eidos posts lower third-quarter numbers while pointing to Tomb Raider, Thief 2, Commandos 2, and new platform support.
Eidos has released financial results for the three and nine months ending December 31, 1999, and the numbers are down from the same stretch a year earlier. Third quarter net revenue came in at 104.3 million pounds, compared with 121.5 million pounds last year.
The company reported third quarter profit before tax of 25.3 million pounds, with net income of 14.2 million pounds. For the nine-month period, Eidos reported net revenue of 148.4 million pounds and a loss before tax of 12.7 million pounds.
Eidos is pointing to a heavy release slate to push forward, including Tomb Raider on Dreamcast and Game Boy Color, another Tomb Raider entry for Christmas, plus Final Fantasy VIII, Resident Evil 3, UEFA Champions League, Thief 2, Commandos 2, Soul Reaver 2, Gangsters 2, and more Championship Manager. The market is shifting, and Eidos is clearly betting that familiar names can drag the cart through the mud.
