Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Confirmed by Bethesda

Bethesda has officially confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development. The news came in a press release outlining the future of the Fallout franchise, though no release dates were provided.

Both games are landmarks in the open-world RPG genre. Fallout 3 (2008) dragged the series into full 3D and still holds up as a grim, imaginative trek through the Capital Wasteland. New Vegas (2010), developed by Obsidian, refined the moral choices and faction play, earning its own intense following. Official remasters are the kind of preservation effort we want to see from a publisher sitting on a back catalog this significant, but the vagueness around timing leaves room for cautious optimism.

Bethesda also mentioned that Obsidian is collaborating on a new Fallout project, separate from the remasters. Whether these remasters end up as straightforward ports or more substantial overhauls is anyone’s guess. We’ll be watching.
