Rockstar opens GTA2.com with a free London 1961 expansion

Rockstar's official GTA community site GTA2.com opens July 1 with GTA: London 1961, a free downloadable prequel expansion for owners of GTA: London 1969 on PC.

Rockstar Games launches its official Grand Theft Auto community site, www.GTA2.com, on July 1, and it opens with a real gift: GTA: London 1961, a free downloadable expansion exclusive to the new site. The prequel pack is a complete new level and costs nothing, though you need the PC version of GTA: London 1969 to run it.

The site starts out with the GTA movie short, release information, and links to fan sites, with demos, hints, and e-commerce promised over the coming months, all backed by an Internet ad campaign starting the same day. Rockstar says the original GTA site peaked above 500,000 visitors a month, and London 1969 topped the UK ChartTrack sales chart, so a proper fan hub is overdue. A free expansion is the right way to open the doors.
