InterAct and 3dfx Team Up on Force-Feedback PC Controllers
InterAct and 3dfx are launching co-branded PC peripherals, led by the Hammerhead FX vibration gamepad and a palm-held FX Racing Wheel.
InterAct Accessories, the controller arm of Recoton, is teaming up with 3dfx on a line of co-branded PC peripherals aimed at gamers running Voodoo3 boards. Two force-feedback controllers lead the line: the Hammerhead FX, which InterAct calls the first dual-analog gamepad for the PC with vibration feedback, and the FX Racing Wheel, a compact, fully programmable racing controller shaped like a remote control that puts force-feedback steering in your hand instead of clamping a wheel to your desk.
Both products will ship in packaging carrying the InterAct and 3dfx logos together, and the companies plan in-store marketing and sales promotions through the third and fourth quarters of 1999. A rumble pad on the PC is overdue, and a racing wheel you hold instead of bolt down is a clever pitch. We’ll see if it steers as well as it sounds.
