Is 38 Studios Broke?
Reports say Rhode Island officials are meeting with 38 Studios over its finances, raising doubts about the future of the Kingdoms of Amalur studio.
According to the Providence Journal, Governor Chafee and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation have been meeting with 38 Studios executives about keeping the company afloat. The studio, owned by former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling, took a $75 million loan guarantee from the state before relocating there in 2010, but it now appears to be in real financial trouble, even after shipping Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning earlier this year. A worrying sign for a studio that arrived with so much fanfare.
