Ocarina of Time Remake Announced for Switch 2

Nintendo has announced a full Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 at its June 2026 Direct, with a realistic art style and a 2026 launch window.

Nintendo confirmed during its June 2026 Direct that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a full remake for Switch 2. The announcement trailer showed a high-fidelity, realistic art style, and Nintendo gave a 2026 launch window.

Ocarina of Time first released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and is one of the most studied games in the medium. A modern remake raises the questions I care about most: how faithful the new version is to the original, whether it complements or replaces the N64 game for new players, and what it means for preservation of the original release and the active decompilation project built around it.

Details beyond the trailer are thin for now. The exact release date, the extent of the changes, and how the remake treats the original’s content have not been spelled out.
