Third Party Security Firm Confirms AOL IM ‘bug’ is the update today, and it is worth keeping an eye on.
Network ICE is behind the announcement. Network ICE, an independent security consulting firm, confirmed today a bug in AOL’s coding that stops Microsoft’s Messanger service from being used by AOL clients.
Network ICE claims that when a user connects to an AOL Instant Messanger server, the client recieves an extra 24 bits more than expected, functioning as a buffer overflow. Network ICE says that they did not reveal this information to fuel the flames between MS and AOL, but rather to warn users.
Not as flashy as a new game trailer, but moves like this shape what ends up on the shelf later.
