VIA Technologies to purchase Cyrix

VIA Technologies to purchase Cyrix landed today, giving players another thing to circle on the calendar.

National Semiconductor Corporation is behind the announcement. National Semiconductor Corporation today announced it has signed a definitive agreement for VIA Technologies, Inc. to purchase the assets of the Cyrix standalone PC processor business.

The sale price of $167 million is payable in part at close with the remainder contingent on future revenues of the Cyrix product line. The sale includes the M II x86-compatible processor and successor products.

PC hardware is moving stupid fast right now, and this is one more part of that arms race.
