Virtual Jaguar 3.0 brings Jaguar CD support to libretro

Virtual Jaguar 3.1.0 is out for libretro frontends, and the headline is the one part of the Atari Jaguar nobody could reliably emulate: the Jaguar CD. All 10 Jaguar CD titles the developers had on hand now boot to game code, in both HLE and real-BIOS modes. The Jaguar CD add-on has always been one of retro’s cursed objects, a tiny library bolted to a console that already lost, sitting on top of hardware famous for not working. Getting those games running in software is the kind of preservation win that matters precisely because the real thing is so miserable to keep alive.

The team says a native bare-bones GUI is planned for people who don’t run RetroArch or a conformant front-end. For now the Jaguar CD, one of the least-played corners of a barely-played console, is finally something you can boot without hunting down a machine that refuses to cooperate.
