Voodoo3 Boards Top PC Data’s May Sales Chart Again
PC Data says the Voodoo3 2000 and 3000 were May's two best-selling retail video cards, with 3dfx taking 37.6 percent of all boards sold.
3dfx says its Voodoo3 boards were the best-selling video cards in North American retail for the second month running. In research firm PC Data’s May tally, the Voodoo3 2000 PCI took the number one spot in both unit shipments and revenue, with the Voodoo3 3000 AGP right behind it in second. PC Data had already named the Voodoo3 family April’s best-selling product line, the same month the boards first reached shelves.
The totals are lopsided. 3dfx accounted for 37.6 percent of every video card sold at retail in May, its revenue more than doubled its closest competitor, and the Voodoo3 3000 alone moved 44 percent more units than all competing next-generation boards combined. Whatever the message boards say about spec sheets, the cash register has picked a side.
