Windows 98 SE Announced

March 19, 1999: Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said on Thursday the company planned to release the second edition of its Windows 98 operating system in the fall.

Windows 98 SE Announced hits the March 1999 news desk on March 19, 1999. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said on Thursday the company planned to release the second edition of its Windows 98 operating system in the fall.

Gates said at a launch event for the company's new Internet Explorer 5.0 browser that the operating system upgrade would be sold in retail stores and be preloaded on most new computers. The new edition of Microsoft's latest consumer-oriented operating system will bring the new browser as well as new device drivers and other updates, Gates said. It is not the loudest kind of gaming news, but the business and community machinery matters. Games do not appear out of thin air.
