Arma 3
Arma 3 is a 2013 open-world military simulation developed and published by the Czech studio Bohemia Interactive for Windows. The third main entry in the Arma series, it is set in the late 2030s on the fictional Mediterranean islands of Altis and Stratis, rendered at vast scale to support large, sandbox-style operations. Arma 3 is renowned for its emphasis on authenticity over arcade action: realistic ballistics, weapon handling, vehicle physics and a deliberate, lethal pace make it as much a soldiering simulator as a shooter. The base game shipped with a singleplayer showcase structure and later a full episodic campaign, but its enduring appeal lies in multiplayer and, above all, user-generated content. A powerful scenario editor and scripting tools, building on the modding legacy of Operation Flashpoint and earlier Arma games, let the community create everything from co-operative missions to total conversions; the survival mod DayZ originated in the previous game, and Arma 3 spawned popular modes such as large-scale 'King of the Hill' and the life-roleplay servers that became a streaming phenomenon. Bohemia supported the title for many years with expansions including Apex, Contact and Tanks. Its development was overshadowed by the 2012 detention of two Bohemia staff in Greece on espionage allegations while photographing a military area, a saga that drew international attention before their eventual release.
