About This Game

Extreme-G: Turbo Fusion is a compilation that pairs Extreme-G (1997) and its sequel Extreme-G 2 (1998), the futuristic anti-gravity motorcycle racers developed by Probe Entertainment and published by Acclaim for the Nintendo 64. The originals delivered high-speed weaponised racing across neon-lit tubes and tracks, with split-screen multiplayer and a style that positioned them as the N64's answer to WipEout and F-Zero.

Turbo Fusion repackages both games on a single cartridge for the launch of the ModRetro M64 in July 2026. Like the rest of the M64's launch lineup it is standard Nintendo 64 software: the compilation runs on an original Nintendo 64 just as it does on the FPGA-based M64, which recreates the console's hardware rather than emulating it.

Extreme-G was an early showcase for the N64's hardware fog and lighting, leaning on distance haze both stylistically and to mask pop-in — and that strain still shows, with heavy weather and effects scenes able to make the hardware stutter. The franchise continued with Extreme-G 3 on the N64 and later XGRA: Extreme-G Racing Association on the sixth-generation consoles, but the first two entries gathered here are the ones most associated with the series' late-90s peak. It is remembered as one of the more distinctive racing franchises of the 64-bit era.

Original Hardware
The original Extreme-G and Extreme-G 2 cartridges are common and cheap on the second-hand market. Turbo Fusion bundles both as a new cartridge for the M64 launch.
