Far Cry
Far Cry is a 2004 first-person shooter developed by Crytek and published by Ubisoft. Set on a tropical archipelago, the game casts players as Jack Carver, an ex-Special Forces operative stranded on an island infested with mercenaries and genetically engineered monsters. Far Cry is renowned for its sprawling outdoor environments, advanced real-time lighting, and remarkably dynamic artificial intelligence that allows enemies to flank, use cover, call for backup, and react to the player's tactics. The game also features a limited multiplayer component with deathmatch and assault modes. Far Cry's steep system requirements and punishing difficulty became infamous, but its technical achievements set a new bar for PC shooters and spawned a successful franchise.
