Golden Axe is an upcoming entry in Sega's long-running Golden Axe series, announced in December 2023 as part of the company's initiative to revive dormant classic franchises. The original Golden Axe was a 1989 arcade hack-and-slash brawler that became a signature Sega Genesis / Mega Drive title, known for its high-fantasy setting, three playable warriors avenging the kingdom of Yuria against the tyrant Death Adder, drop-in cooperative play, and rideable beasts.

Sega has confirmed the new Golden Axe is in development but, in its 2026 financial presentations, listed the project's official title and release date as to be determined. Little has been shown publicly beyond the initial announcement, with earlier reporting describing the revival as a more comedic take produced with an external studio, though Sega has not detailed the final direction.

It is one of five franchises, alongside Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage, named in Sega's 2023 legacy-IP push. As of mid-2026 it remains officially upcoming with no confirmed platforms or release window, making it the least-detailed of the announced revivals.
