Hack ’95
Hack '95 is a card-based hacking RPG developed by Village Studios, set in the mid-1990s internet underground. Players take on the role of a hacker drawn into a conspiracy that begins with changing student grades and escalates through corporate espionage and government surveillance. The game uses a deck-building system inspired by 1990s trading card games, with scripts and hijacked computers serving as the player's tools against target systems.
The entire game is presented through period-accurate operating system interfaces modeled on Windows 95, complete with era-appropriate pop-ups, chat clients, and desktop environments. The demo released alongside the announcement includes a licensed 90s radio station, interactive chat sequences, and live action video segments. Licensed music in the demo includes tracks from N-R-G and Nookie.
The script was written by Keith Stuart, games journalist and author of the novel A Boy Made of Blocks. Game director Will Luton previously worked at SEGA and Rovio. Village Studios is based in Bath, UK.
Hack '95 was announced at the PC Gaming Show at Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2026. No release date has been set. A demo is available on Steam.
