King's Quest VIII: Mask of Eternity is a 3D action-adventure game developed and published by Sierra On-Line in 1998. It is the eighth main installment in the long-running King's Quest series and the first to use polygonal graphics instead of hand-drawn 2D. The game follows Connor, a commoner whose world is turned to stone by a magical curse, as he searches for the pieces of the Mask of Eternity to restore the kingdom of Daventry. Unlike previous King's Quest titles, which emphasized puzzle-solving and narrative, Mask of Eternity focuses on real-time combat, platforming, and item collection in a fully 3D environment. The game was widely criticized for its clunky controls, unpolished visuals, and departure from the series' classic adventure style, and it was the last King's Quest game produced before the series went dormant for over a decade.
